I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the electoral process. Your engagement is the cornerstone of our democracy and vital to our city's progress.
As I step into this role, I pledge to work diligently on the initiatives we discussed during the campaign, including strengthening city services and enhancing public safety. I am committed to fostering open communication and collaboration to address the needs and aspirations of all residents.

Heather Cheesman currently serves as Commissioner and Director of Public Safety and Affairs. She previously served on the Board of Commissioners as Deputy Mayor and Director of Revenue and Finance from 2009-2013.

Heather Cheesman is a dedicated public servant and accomplished government executive, passionate about driving positive change in her community. A lifelong resident of Bordentown, New Jersey, Heather has developed a strong sense of civic responsibility and commitment to her community.
Heather began her career in public service, first as a Border Patrol Agent for the Department of Immigration and Naturalization, and then as an educator with the Juvenile Justice Commission. She became a special education teacher for the Bordentown Regional School District, after earning her Masters Degree in Special Education from Rider University.
In 2009, Heather joined the Burlington County Clerk's office, serving as the Chief of Staff and then Deputy Clerk. In her years at the county, she demonstrated fiscal responsibility and leadership, by co-managing a multi-departmental collaboration to guarantee the successful execution of early voting; spearheaded the crisis management response to COVID-19 by implementing creative and innovative solutions that improved services and developing policies that resulted in a revenue return of over $51 million. In 2023, she became the Director of Payroll for Capital Health Systems.
A lifelong learner, Heather recently completed the Certified Public Manager (CPM) and County Administrator Program at Rutgers University and is pursuing Municipal Finance/Chief Financial Officer and Municipal Clerk certifications at the Center for Government Services.
Locally, Heather is proud to have served as the Deputy Mayor for Bordentown City from 2009 - 2013. During her time in office, she helped establish the Bordentown City Green Team and the Bordentown Farmers Market. She continued her community service after leaving office as a member of the Green Team, the Bordentown City Planning and Zoning Board, and the Bordentown Sewerage Authority.
Heather lives on Spring Street with her partner, Jason, her son, Max, and her daughter, Maggie.
